Cookie Policy

What this covers
This page explains the cookies and similar browser storage used on nabinaghosh.com, when the consent banner appears, and how to change your choice at any time from anywhere.
Where the banner appears
If you are visiting from the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, a small banner in the bottom-left corner asks whether we may use Google Analytics cookies. Nothing is stored until you answer it, and ignoring it has the same effect as declining.
Everywhere else, Google Analytics is on by default and no banner appears. You can switch it off whenever you like using the controls at the foot of this page, and that choice is then honoured on every later visit, including visits from a region where the banner would otherwise have appeared.
Which of the two you get is decided from the country Cloudflare reports for your connection. We never see your IP address ourselves, only the two-letter country code. If Cloudflare cannot place you, you get the banner.
How your choice is stored
Your answer is saved in your browser’s localStorage under the key
ngcsi-ga-consent, with a value of accepted or declined.
This preference is not itself a cookie, and it never leaves your browser, but we mention it
here for the sake of transparency.
When analytics is on
Google Analytics 4 (G-0DS0DRRTKE) may set two first-party analytics cookies. Both are read only by Google Analytics, and neither is used for advertising.
-
_ga, which lasts 2 years and lets Analytics recognise a returning browser. -
_ga_0DS0DRRTKE, which lasts 2 years and holds the state of your current session for this particular site.
For more on these, see Google’s cookie information.
When analytics is off
If you decline, or if you are in a region where the banner appears and you have not answered
it, GA4 still loads through Google’s Consent Mode v2, but no analytics cookies
are set. Instead GA4 sends only cookieless, anonymised measurement pings, and no
_ga cookies are ever written to your browser.
Advertising cookies
There are none. This site runs no advertising or remarketing. Consent for advertising storage, advertising user data and ad personalisation is denied for every visitor on every page, whatever your location and whichever button you press, so no advertising cookie is ever set. Our Privacy Policy sets out what Analytics does and does not record.
Ahrefs Web Analytics
Ahrefs Web Analytics runs on every visit and, according to Ahrefs, does not use cookies at all. Because it sets no cookies, it sits outside the consent banner. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
Other storage
Embedded YouTube players may set cookies if you interact with a video. Wherever possible we
use the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com embed to keep this to a minimum.
Change your mind
Switching analytics off stores a decline for this browser and keeps GA4 in its cookieless mode wherever you visit from. Resetting clears that preference and returns you to the default for your location, which means the banner again in the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, and analytics on elsewhere. Either button reloads the page so the change takes effect immediately.
